Five Readers Win!
To celebrate the start of a New Year, we're giving away five copies of "The Tarantula in My Purse and 172 Other Wild Pets". This is a fun autobiographical account of acclaimed author-naturalist Jean Craighead George.
Imagine growing up with a skunk in your closet, a bat in your refrigerator, and a tarantula in your purse...living with a variety of animals - including a mischievous crow, a duck with an arrest record, and a Houdini-like boa constrictor - the George family learns just how entertaining life with wild creatures can be. These funny and touching animal stories from a master storyteller will speak to the animal lover in all of us.

When we decided to get a dog-- I searched online at our local shelters until I had decided to go look at the dogs in person. I found one dog that I was quite interested in and took my husband and I to meet her at the shelter. I struck out in search of Sammie but didn't see her anywhere. On my husband's insistence I went to check out the dog that he had picked out. And it was my Sammie girl from the online picture. Since we both picked her, we had to bring her home.

Our family's beloved pet is named Precious & she is a gray and white tabby that we found about nine months ago. On our way home from the grocery store with shopping with my three boys, I noticed a kitten on the side of the street. Of course I couldn't leave her there so she came home with us and ever since then, My boys have been spoiling her senseless :)
ReplyDeleteMy puppy is salt-n-pepper colored Miniature Schnauzer named Abby. She is almost 4 years old and is so much fun! I am positive that a dog can have a sense of humor. Sometimes she gives these looks that could make even the grumpiest person smile. She is also sweet and loving and is a "Momma's Girl" She is always right there with me and doesn't like it if I am not there. I am quite blessed to have found the perfect dog.

Our Bud, Windy and Tangy are real family members, and all have been rescued. We can’t understand why anyone would abuse animals but it happens all the time and sometimes right under our noses and in disguise.
ReplyDeleteWe would never allow anyone to beat our dog with a fireplace poker or use a electric prod on her to train her to do tricks but this is exactly how the circus industry trains there elephants to make them entertain the public and until recently have been able to hide this abuse from parents.
We had have one nice cat Sunny in our house. But she left. Now we think to get a new pet for kids.

I currently have no pets, as we can't have them where we live. So I will talk about my dog that I use to have years ago, she was a German Shepard mix. Her was the most loyal and smartest animal I have ever had. Her name was Cricket, however she ended up getting sick and my parents had to put her down.

We currently have a gecko and a guinea pig as pets. We did have a beta fish and an iguana but they passed away recently. I think this cold weather got to them. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteRight now I have this old stray tom cat that I have kinda adopted. He still loves to roam, but he always comes back for food and a warm place to sleep. He showed up 2 weeks after we lost our family dog and has helped us heal by giving us an animal to love.

My favorite pet is my cat Chester! We just adopted him a few months ago and he is 7 months old. He is SOOO great with my 4.5 and 2.5 year old kids! My favorite memory with him so far:
ReplyDeleteMy 2.5 year old daughter was playing with her vanity in the bathroom and she called me to see her pretty face and when I walked in she had a tu-tu on Chester and hair clips on his furr and the kitten was just puuurrrring away!!

We have always had dogs, dogs, dogs.
At the moment we have 6. All are rescue dogs although 2 of them just wandered into our property and stayed. None of them can be considered as pedigreed by any means !
Four are small dogs and two are large.
The menageree changes quite often of course, as dogs age and pass and new ones appear.
Dogs are just great friends.
Thanks
